Stéphane Billette, MNA for Huntingdon, became the first Liberal in the province to be nominated as the party’s candidate in their riding. Newly appointed as provincial chair of elections, Billette thought it important to kick-off the preparations for the other 124 provincial ridings by getting his own nomination completed.
Billette noted that the Liberal association in the riding had one of the largest memberships in the province with 1,400 members. This, he said, bodes well in view of the new restraints on party financing given the large support given to the riding association by individuals. In the spirit of party financing reform, Billette announced that a dinner would be held on June 18th at the Hemmingford Golf Club, free of charge, where party members would have the chance to meet the new leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, Philippe Couillard.
