New Liberal leader Philippe Couillard visited the Huntingdon riding on Tuesday, June 18th. He was toured around to various locations by MNA Stephane Billette so that he could become more familiar with the region as he takes up his new party duties.
At the end of the day, Couillard addressed a gathering of Liberal partisans at the Hemmingford Golf Club, a standing room only event which was very much open to Couillard's message of having an election sooner rather than later. In anticipation of an election in the near future, Stephane Billette was recently named chair of the provincial election committee for the Liberal party.
He also made the point, to a loud round of applause, that Liberals stand for bringing people together through shared values and tolerance rather than dividing them over language. "We are proud of our Quebec identity, and of our Canadian heritage", he said in emphasizing his party's commitment to oppose separation.
