CVR junior girls’ rugby team beats Saint-Joseph to capture first-ever RSEQ Montérégie title.
The final game saw CVR take on the team from Saint-Joseph de Saint-Hyacinthe. Both teams played very well but in the end it was CVR who came out victorious with a 10-5 win. Up until this match, both teams were undefeated as their earlier meet in the season resulted in a 5-5 tie.
The CVR team finished the season with 11 wins and a game that ended in a draw giving them a total of 46 points. The team from Saint-Hyacinthe came in second with nine wins, one loss and two ties.
This was the first time that a rugby league was organized by the RSEQ Montergie. It was well received as they had seven teams from five different schools. The junior girls’ league will return next fall.
Shannon Roy said, “We owe all our success to our coaches. They were the ones who spent the time working on our techniques and made sure we were in positions that we would be great in.”
Roy mentioned that their successful season was also due to her teammates. They were all incredibly supportive and encouraging, and they made sure that every girl on the team could score at least one try throughout the season.
She goes on to say that “winning was a great feeling since it was a new league and they had several new players.” This young group of ladies put a lot of hard work and dedication in this season. Congratulations on a job well done!
