The suspects had formed a network led by a 51-year old woman from Beauharnois, who was among those already arrested. This band of people have been transporting, delivering and distributing illegal bulk tobacco for about two months. During the investigation, police seized more than 2,800 kg of illegal bulk tobacco as well as six vehicles used by the members of this organization. Searches of two homes are still being conducted and three other vehicles used to perpetrate the crimes have also been seized.
These people were to appear in court yesterday and could face charges in accordance with article 121.1 of the Criminal Code for having transported, delivered, distributed or in their possession tobacco products not properly stamped.
